A "Thumbnail Sketch" of Saltmarsh House
Saltmarsh House is a private residential care home for the elderly, situated at the western side of Hayling Island in a pleasant residential setting known as West Town. A range of shops are available in West Town or Mengham that are suitable for everyday shopping. Larger stores and shopping complexes are situated in Havant, Chichester and Portsmouth which are within easy reach by road. The seafront is about a mile away with car parking facilities. The view from the seafront is of the Solent, which is busy with large and small boat traffic. There are a large number of footpaths around the Island, which are easily accessible and give vantage points to views over both Langstone and Chichester harbours.
Saltmarsh House was built in 1977 (Queen Elizabeth II jubilee year) and faces west. The house is constructed with local red bricks, Georgian windows, and the roofing is of red rolled tiles.
The house is of an award-winning design and stands back from the road with its own shingle drive and forecourt car parking area. The house has a garden pond with a variety of fish, water plants and a fountain.
An extensive patio with garden furniture is available for sitting out when the weather allows.
A large conservatory is situated at the rear of the house facing east which provides an additional area for relaxation. The front patio, which is adjacent to the lounge, is used for morning coffee and or afternoon tea on sunny days. A heated swimming pool is situated in front of the house for use during the summer.
The accommodation within the house consists of bright and cheerful single rooms, attractively decorated, some with en suite facilities. The rooms face east to west with adjacent bathrooms. A large lounge is provided in which a television, Video Recorder/DVD, Radio, Record/Cassette player are available for residents use. Talking Books are available from a local organisation.
A Television is available in each of the bedrooms, although some residents prefer their own familiar television. The house has wash basins in all rooms, full central heating with independent heating controls in each room.
A care assistant emergency call system is installed in each bedroom and other rooms should help be needed urgently.
